Family Fun and Insider Tips for Car Buyers at the British Motor Show
The format for the traditional “Motor Show” has reinvented itself in recent years. With the exception of the big global events – Shanghai, Geneva and LA – they’ve become less about exclusive car launches and more about a family fun day-out.
The case is certainly true for this year’s British Motor Show, taking place over 4-days from 19-22nd August at the Farnborough International exhibition suite in Hampshire. Whether you’re a petrolhead or not, the new format show has something for everyone, with car-celebrities, test drive circuits, an arena for stunt drivers, classic cars, supercars and a marketplace of motoring services for sale.
Billed as a celebration of the past, present and future, the show has been designed with the aim to inform, entertain and interact with visitors. Here are some of the features you can expect to find across its 3 exhibition halls and acres of outdoor space.

The chance to compare and contrast the latest cars on sale today. Manufacturers and main dealers will display their current models, with staff on hand to answer questions, while you weigh-up options across neighbouring stands.
Electric Motor Show
A showcase of the latest electric vehicles (EVs) and the infrastructure that goes with them. Think charging and technology providers looking to demo and explain the future direction of travel. A neighbouring Electric Vehicle Zone, sponsored by Select Car Leasing, will also allow visitors to test drive EVs.
The Live Stage
Where the show becomes truly entertaining and informative. Expect to see a roll call of TV motoring stars including Mike Brewer from Wheeler Dealers, Tim Shaw and Fuzz Townsend from Car SOS, as well as Fifth Gear’s Vicki Butler-Henderson. Alongside a selection of motorsport drivers and leading car journalists, expect the celebs to entertain with car quizzes, live demos as well as personal stories and industry insider views.
Supercar paddock
Rare, expensive and super-quick cars. Plenty of expensive Italian and German metal, sprinkled with British thoroughbreds and the odd Bugatti and Japanese domestic market.
Classic Cars and owner’s clubs
Vintage and modern-day classics; cars with true character and class. For many, the stars and legends of the show.
Car Tech
A series of zones exploring the increasing role of technology across drivetrains, in-car infotainment, smart roads and our transportation network.
Young drivers
Exhbits include a Kidz zone, with activities like model building and go-karting, through to an Under 17 Driving Experience, where children aged 10 and over can book into a 20-minute instructor-led driving experience.
Test Drive experience
The chance to test drive some of the latest cars on sale today, using the venue’s 2-kms of test circuit as well as surrounding public roads. Or if you don’t fancy driving yourself, you can book into a Caterham “drift taxi”, where a qualified stunt driver will give a first-hand intro to the iconic 2-seater sportscar’s lightening acceleration and manoeuvrability.
According to British Motor Show CEO Andy Entwistle “At a time when the whole country has taken a few knocks I’m proud to be able to support the manufacturers and suppliers and give them a platform to really shout about their products and innovations, while delivering a fun day out for the whole family. This is a new breed of motor show with an historic name, that will deliver something completely new, unique and utterly unmissable.”
